Chadian journalist Malick Mahamat Tidjani, coordinator of Alwihda Info, has been located in Cairo after being reported missing and is currently being held by Egyptian authorities.
He entered Egypt on July 13 with a valid visa for a private visit, but has reportedly been unable to contact his family, friends or newsroom.
The Chadian Embassy in Cairo has been notified, while the reasons for his continued detention have not been publicly clarified.
Alwihda Info says Egyptian authorities have completed the necessary procedures and that the remaining step is for the Chadian embassy to issue a travel document and send a representative to the journalist, allowing his repatriation.
The newsroom has called on Chad’s Foreign Ministry to intervene urgently and has already arranged a flight for August 18, should the administrative process be resolved.
