The Constitutional Council of Côte d’Ivoire has approved five contenders for the upcoming presidential election scheduled for October 25, 2025.
Incumbent President Alassane Ouattara will compete against former first lady Simone Éhivet Gbagbo of the Movement of Capable Generations (MGC), Jean-Louis Billon of the Democratic Congress (CODE), Ahoua Don Mello, a former executive of the African Peoples’ Party (PPA-CI), and Henriette Lagou Adjoua of the Group of Political Partners for Peace (GP-PAIX).
High-profile figures including former President Laurent Gbagbo, PDCI leader Tidjane Thiam, and FPI leader Pascal Affi N’Guessan were barred from the race, with the Council citing ineligibility and insufficient sponsorships.
The electoral commission had initially received 60 applications, but only five made the final cut.
The official campaign period will run from October 10 to 23 ahead of the decisive vote.
