Côte d’Ivoire has taken a significant step towards becoming a leader in the low-carbon transition in West Africa and across the continent by establishing a Forum on Carbon Markets.
The initiative, led by the Ivorian Minister of Environment, Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition, Jacques Assahoré Konan, aims to promote carbon credit mechanisms and provide additional resources to finance climate action.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Assahoré noted that the Carbon Market Office has officially commenced activities, enabling stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the new system. He also highlighted the country’s efforts, including a national portfolio of climate action projects established since 2024, which is now entering a promotion phase.
French Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, Jean-Christophe Belliard, praised the forum as a transformative initiative to turn climate challenges into opportunities for innovation and sustainable development.
