The public prosecutor at the Dakar High Court, Ibrahima Ndoye, announced that preliminary investigations into the death of student Abdoulaye Bâ on February 9 found no indication that he was subjected to physical violence.
Speaking at a press briefing, Ndoye explained that inquiries were launched immediately after unrest involving students and security forces on campus. Investigators interviewed medical personnel, officials from the Dakar University Social Services Center (COUD), students, and police officers, while the Criminal Investigation Division conducted on-site inspections, reviewed surveillance footage, and examined publicly circulated videos.
According to the prosecutor, autopsy results and collected evidence point to traumatic shock caused by a fall.
Findings suggest the student attempted to escape smoke and fire in his dormitory room in building F and fell from the fourth floor onto the pavement below.
Authorities stated that roommates reported no direct confrontation with security forces during the incident. While extending condolences to the family and the university community, the prosecutor’s office affirmed that investigations remain ongoing to determine any potential responsibility. Meanwhile, a public fundraising initiative has raised approximately 40 million FCFA to support the victim’s family.
