ECOWAS Launches Pre-Election Mission in Côte d’Ivoire Ahead of October Presidential Poll

An ECOWAS pre-election information mission is currently in Côte d’Ivoire and will continue until July 5, 2025, as part of efforts to support a peaceful and transparent presidential election scheduled for October 25.

Led by Professor Théodore Holo, former President of Benin’s Constitutional Court, the delegation held a working session on July 1 with the leadership of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), including President Coulibaly Kuibiert, to assess preparations and identify potential support needed from ECOWAS and its partners.

The mission is engaging with electoral stakeholders to gather information on the electoral timetable, challenges in implementation, and mechanisms for political and civil society consultations.

ECOWAS has recommended the signing of a Code of Good Conduct by candidates and the provision of financial and technical resources to ensure a smooth process.

The initiative aligns with ECOWAS’ Additional Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance and aims to prevent electoral tensions in the region.

The delegation includes regional electoral experts, senior diplomats, and a technical team headed by Ms. Fanta Cissé, ECOWAS Resident Representative in Côte d’Ivoire.
