Five Nigerians Arrested in Ghana Over Bank Robbery Syndicate Targeting Customers

Ghana Police have arrested five Nigerians and a Ghanaian in connection with a robbery syndicate targeting bank customers in the Ashanti Region.

According to police investigations, the group monitored victims who withdrew large sums from financial institutions, trailed them, and later broke into their vehicles to steal the cash.

The operations, which have been active for the past month, came under police radar following intelligence reports and video surveillance footage from the emergency command centre.

Two vehicles—a gold Toyota Highlander (GT 2471-14) and a black Toyota Highlander (GX 7124-12)—were used by the syndicate, both carrying fake registration plates.

The suspects currently in custody include Russell Ekenze, Francis Friday, and Linus Agwazie, with the group reportedly confessing to being part of a larger criminal network.

A man identified as Cosmas Maduabuchukwu sustained gunshot wounds during an attempted arrest but escaped.

Police have launched a manhunt for him and others still at large. All suspects are Nigerian nationals except one Ghanaian identified as DD.

They have been remanded by the court, and the police assure residents of their commitment to maintaining public safety.
