At least four mobile police officers are feared dead following an armed attack on Udei community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria, on Sunday afternoon.
Udei is located less than 15 minutes by road from Yelewata, a community that experienced a similar incident just over two weeks earlier.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers arrived around 11 a.m. and attempted to reach nearby Daudu. A joint force of security personnel and local residents responded to the attack.
Reports indicate the armed group initially entered Asha community, firing weapons and causing residents, including farmers, to flee the area.
The violence extended to Ortese, a settlement that houses thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Military personnel deployed in the area engaged the group in nearby bushland and blocked access to Ortese.
No civilian deaths were reported in Ortese during the incident.
This marks the second reported attack in the region in less than three weeks. On June 10, an assault on Yelewata resulted in more than 200 deaths, numerous injuries, and large-scale displacement.
