Gambian President Adama Barrow Dismisses Yahya Jammeh’s Threats Amid Return Claims

Gambian President Adama Barrow has brushed aside remarks from former leader Yahya Jammeh, who recently claimed that Barrow would “know who owns the country” once he returns from exile later this month.

In an audio message released late last week, Jammeh expressed anger at statements by Gambian officials suggesting that he would face arrest and prosecution upon his return.

Jammeh, who ruled The Gambia for 22 years before being forced into exile in Equatorial Guinea in 2017, has repeatedly hinted at a comeback.

Speaking at a large political rally in Sukuta on Saturday evening, President Barrow downplayed the former leader’s comments, accusing him of making baseless threats.

The president reminded the crowd that Jammeh no longer wields the authority he once held, likening his repeated declarations to empty promises.
