Gas Tanker Explosion in Nigeria Kills Two, Destroys Vehicles and Buildings

A gas-laden tanker exploded in Lagos, Nigeria on Tuesday, killing two people and injuring three others, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the injured were taken to hospital for treatment as the fire engulfed 12 vehicles, eight tricycles, and a building.

Emergency response teams, including LASEMA’s Tiger Response Team, were deployed to contain the inferno, while authorities sealed off the area.

Motorists were advised to take alternative routes.The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the fire spread to nearby structures, including a church, a residential building, and a mechanics’ park near the Otedola underpass, adjacent to CMD Road.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, in a statement on X, said its teams were battling the fire, which was caused by a 30-tonne DAF gas truck. The agency assured the public that efforts were underway to fully extinguish the flames and restore normalcy.
