Ghana has officially thrown its support behind Morocco’s proposal for autonomy in the Sahara region, marking a major boost for regional cooperation and peacebuilding in Africa.
During an official visit to Rabat, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, met with Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, to sign a political memorandum of understanding.
The visit highlighted a shared vision between the two nations – one centered on stability, unity, and development across the African continent.
Ghana described Morocco’s autonomy plan as the most “realistic and lasting” way to resolve the Sahara issue. Both countries also emphasized the United Nations’ central role in securing a fair and practical outcome to the conflict.
The ministers celebrated the growing relationship between their nations, agreeing to deepen partnerships in areas such as education, science, trade, security, and sustainable development.
As a sign of this growing cooperation, Morocco announced more scholarships for Ghanaian students and easier travel procedures for Ghanaians visiting Morocco.
