The government of Ghana has completed the evacuation of all its nationals who wished to leave Israel, as tensions in the Middle East escalate into a broader regional conflict.
In a statement on March 19, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the operation also included some staff from Ghana’s embassy in Tel Aviv, while a limited number remain to provide essential consular services.
He thanked Israeli and Egyptian authorities for their cooperation and welcomed the safe return of evacuees.
The evacuation follows a major escalation triggered by strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure and subsequent retaliatory attacks across the Gulf, raising global security and economic concerns.
Ghana has already been affected by the crisis, including injuries to its peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon and civilians in the Gulf region.
Accra has called for strengthened protection of its personnel abroad and urged its citizens in affected areas to remain vigilant, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding Ghanaians overseas amid the unfolding crisis.
