Ghana Police Arrest Four Over Threats, False News, and Illegal Weapons After Helicopter Crash

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals—Prince Ofori, Yayra Abiwu, and Emmanuel Kwakye—for issuing death threats and spreading false information following the August 6 helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region, which claimed eight lives, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

The crash occurred as a military helicopter was transporting an official delegation to Obuasi.

Authorities said the arrests are part of efforts to curb misinformation as the nation observes three days of mourning and the Ghana Armed Forces conduct an official investigation, with the black boxes already recovered.

In a separate operation, police detained influencer Daniel Adomako, known as “Sir Obama Pokuase,” for allegedly sharing content showing people openly displaying illegally acquired, high-powered weapons.

The crackdown is part of a wider campaign to combat criminal activity and prevent the spread of illegal arms.

The police have urged the public to share credible information to aid ongoing investigations and security operations.
