Ghana Records 2,151 Road Deaths in Nine Months

Road crashes in Ghana killed 2,151 people and injured 12,230 others between January and September 2026, according to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).

The police recorded 10,157 crashes involving 17,197 vehicles across the country during the period, with cases reported in all 25 police regions.

MTTD Director of Education, Research and Training, ACP Alexander Kwaku Obeng, released the figures on Thursday, saying police investigators responded to crash scenes to assist victims and support emergency efforts.

He described the incidents as preventable and called for greater caution among motorists and other road users.

The figures highlight the continuing toll of road crashes in Ghana, with thousands of people killed or injured during the first nine months of 2026.
