Ghana Renews Partnership With Mercy Ships Ahead of Global Mercy’s 2026 Arrival

The government of Ghana has renewed its collaboration with the international humanitarian organization Mercy Ships, confirming that the hospital vessel Global Mercy™ will dock at the port of Tema in August 2026.

During its stay, the ship will provide free specialized surgical procedures including tumor removal, cleft lip and palate repair, pediatric orthopedic surgery, cataract surgery, and obstetric fistula treatment.

Local health professionals will also receive training as part of the mission, which supports the country’s healthcare system.

This will mark Mercy Ships’ fifth mission to Ghana since 1991, following previous visits that delivered over 2,600 surgeries, 16,700 dental procedures, and the training of 139 health workers.

Beyond medical services, the organization will partner with the Ministry of Health to advance the National Surgery, Obstetrics and Anesthesia Plan (NSOAP), aimed at strengthening long-term surgical and healthcare capacity nationwide.
