Ghana to Receive Additional 40 Deportees from the United States

Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the country will soon receive an additional 40 deportees from the United States.

The announcement follows criticism from the parliamentary Minority, who questioned the government’s decision earlier this month to accept 14 deportees, suggesting the process bypassed parliamentary approval.

The government clarified that the arrangement is guided by an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the US, which does not require parliamentary ratification.

Minister Ablakwa emphasized that Ghana’s decision to host the deportees is based solely on humanitarian grounds, highlighting concerns over the treatment of deported individuals abroad. The new group of deportees is expected to arrive in the coming days.
