Ghanaian Citizens to Face Court for Aiding Foreign Nationals in ID Fraud

Ghana’s National Identification Authority (NIA) has issued a stern warning to citizens who unlawfully vouch for foreign nationals attempting to obtain the Ghana Card; an official national identity document.

At a press briefing on Monday, August 4, 2025, the NIA’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, announced that legal proceedings are already underway against multiple individuals involved in the illegal practice.

He revealed that 20 individuals are already facing prosecution, including several Ghanaians who fraudulently vouched for non-citizens. He added that the system is built to easily detect such violations.

Darlas raised alarm over the rising trend of individuals turning the vouching process into a profit-making scheme by endorsing people they don’t personally know. He issued a stern warning to those trading integrity for cash, cautioning that they will face the full force of the law.

The NIA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s national ID system and encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities related to the registration process.
