Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson as acting Defence Minister following a military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of all onboard, including Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah.
The crash occurred during a flight to the gold mining town of Obuasi, carrying five government officials and three airforce crew members, including Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
The cause of the crash remains unknown, and authorities have yet to provide details on the incident.
Forson, who was appointed Finance Minister in January after Mahama returned to office, will now temporarily oversee the defence ministry as the country mourns the loss of senior officials.
