President Mahama in Arusha for the 2026 Judicial Year of the African Court

Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama is in Arusha as special guest of honour at the official opening of the 2026 judicial year of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

The ceremony also marks the launch of the court’s 20th anniversary celebrations, commemorating two decades of promoting human and peoples’ rights across the continent.

According to the presidency, this is the first time a sitting Ghanaian president has been invited to address the AU Court, highlighting Ghana’s longstanding commitment to justice and human rights in Africa.

Mahama is expected to deliver a keynote speech reviewing the court’s progress, Ghana’s role in advancing continental human rights efforts, and the continuing challenges facing the protection of justice across Africa.
