Guinea and Mali have agreed to strengthen border cooperation to facilitate the free movement of people and goods, while preventing tensions over shared resources.
During a technical meeting held on August 13, 2025, at the Noom Hotel in Conakry, chaired by Guinean Security Minister General Bachir Diallo and attended by Malian Minister for Malians Living Abroad and African Integration Mossa AG Attaher, officials discussed mechanisms to streamline trade, enhance border management, and maintain security in compliance with existing laws.

The talks focused on reducing border controls, creating clear protocols for the flow of goods and people, and reinforcing the historical ties between communities along the shared frontier.
The meeting also addressed livestock movement issues, particularly the April 2025 incident in which Malian herds were expelled from Guinea’s Kankan region, exposing tensions over the use of cross-border resources. Both sides acknowledged the need for stronger coordination to avoid future disputes, promising balanced solutions for border populations.
A detailed report with practical recommendations will guide future cooperation, aiming to improve economic exchanges, ensure stability, and strengthen security in the border regions.
