Guinea Bissau Sets Date for Legislative Elections

Guinea Bissau is preparing for its legislative elections, scheduled to be held on November 24.

President Umarou Sissoko Emballo made the announcement on Monday during a press briefing.

This election marks the second time in a year and a half that Bissau-Guineans will head to the polls to elect their Members of Parliament.

The upcoming elections follow a significant political event in December 2023, when President Emballo dissolved the National Assembly, which was then dominated by the opposition.

The dissolution came in the wake of what the president described as an attempted coup.

The announcement sets the stage for a critical electoral process, as the country seeks to stabilize its political landscape and address ongoing governance challenges.

Meanwhile, the international community, along with local observers, hinted that, it will be closely monitoring the elections to ensure they are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
