GUINEA Provisional candidate list released for May 31 legislative elections

Guinea’s General Directorate of Elections (DGE) has published the provisional list of validated candidates for the legislative elections scheduled for May 31, 2026, following a one-week postponement to accommodate Pentecost and Tabaski celebrations.

A national validation committee, supported by local structures across 375 municipalities, reviewed all applications at the central level. The DGE emphasized that local committees were not authorized to reject submissions, as all files were processed nationally.

Candidates were assessed based on document compliance, authenticity of civil records, adherence to the 30% female quota, financial guarantees, and political party endorsements.

Out of 28 political parties that submitted national proportional representation lists, 21 were provisionally approved. For constituency-based elections, 109 out of 150 applications were validated across 50 constituencies, representing a 27% rejection rate.

The gender breakdown shows 306 men and 136 women, with women making up 31% of candidates. Four constituencies remain reserved for Guineans abroad in Africa, Europe, Asia, and America.

The provisional lists will now be forwarded to the Supreme Court for final validation, while candidates have 48 hours to file appeals after publication.
