Guinea’s Prime Minister Pledges Government Support for Manéah Landslide victims

Guinean Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah has visited Manéah following Thursday’s landslide to express the government’s solidarity with affected families.

Rescue teams, including the Military Engineering Corps, Civil Protection, the National Agency for Emergency and Humanitarian Disaster Management, and local authorities, are working to locate the missing, evacuate the injured, and recover bodies from the rubble.

The Prime Minister conveyed condolences on behalf of the President and the government while assuring families of ongoing support.

During his visit, Bah warned of the risks posed by uncontrolled urban development in high-risk zones such as riverbeds and hillsides, stressing the need for stricter regulations to prevent future disasters.

He pointed to the earlier evacuation of the Zagopé landfill as a preventive step that helped limit the scale of the tragedy and pledged that the government would introduce stronger measures to regulate construction in vulnerable areas.
