Guinea’s State-Owned Nimba Mining Company Signs First Mining Agreement

Guinea’s state-owned Nimba Mining Company (NMC SA) has signed its first mining agreement, marking a significant milestone in the country’s strategy to strengthen state control over its mineral resources. Established in August 2025 and fully owned by the Guinean government, NMC was created to increase national participation in the mining sector and maximize the economic benefits of the country’s natural resources. Officials said the agreement follows the successful transfer of assets from the former GAC company, enabling NMC to export its first shipment of bauxite in November 2025.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, senior government officials described the agreement as a major step toward Guinea’s resource sovereignty. Authorities reaffirmed their ambition to move beyond exporting raw bauxite by developing local processing into alumina and aluminium, in line with the Simandou 2040 programme. The initiative aims to transform Guinea’s mining industry into a driver of industrialization, economic growth, and sustainable national development.
