Armed men on motorbikes attacked the village of Gamdum Mallam in Adafka, Bukkuyum, Zamfara State, on Saturday, killing at least two people and abducting more than 100, mostly women and children.
Witnesses said the assailants stormed the community around midday, splitting into groups—one kidnapping residents and livestock while the other mounted a roadblock at Adafka’s main entrance, firing at anyone attempting to escape.
The attackers later moved their captives toward Makakari forest.
The violence comes as Zamfara, the epicentre of banditry in northwest Nigeria, continues to face waves of deadly raids. Between July 2024 and June 2025, at least 4,722 people were kidnapped in the region, according to SBM Intelligence.
Local officials confirmed additional abductions in Nasarawa Burkullum and Ruwan Rana villages during the same raid. Fears of renewed attacks remain high, while police have yet to issue an official response.
