Gunmen Kill 11, Abduct Over 70 in New Attack on Zamfara Village

At least 11 people were killed and more than 70 others, including women and children, abducted when armed men stormed Sabongarin Damri village in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria, late Saturday.

Eye witnesses said the assailant, locally referred to as “bandits,” opened fire indiscriminately as they entered the village, leaving residents fleeing for safety.

One survivor recounted being shot in the leg while his wife was taken by the attackers.

Zamfara has become a hotspot for such violent raids, which have severely impacted agriculture, restricted movement, and displaced thousands.

From April to July, Nigerian security forces reportedly arrested over 2,100 suspects and rescued 175 kidnap victims across the northwest and central regions, according to the National Orientation Agency.

However, local police have yet to comment on the latest incident.
