Liberian Government Suspends Work Permits for Unskilled Expatriates

The Liberian government has suspended the issuance of work permits for unskilled expatriate workers in a bid to prioritize employment opportunities for Liberian citizens.

This decision was announced following a visit by Labour Minister Cooper Kruah to several foreign-owned companies in Nimba County, including Arcelor Mittal and AFCONS.

During the tour, Minister Kruah received numerous complaints from local workers who expressed concern over the high number of unskilled expatriates occupying positions that could be filled by qualified Liberians.

The move is seen as an effort to address these concerns and ensure that Liberians have better access to job opportunities, particularly in sectors where they have the necessary skills and qualifications.
