Former Senegalese President Macky Sall has continued his campaign for the position of United Nations Secretary-General with a one-day diplomatic tour of Senegal and The Gambia.
In Dakar, Sall met President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to officially present his candidacy and seek Senegal’s support. The presidency described the meeting as a demonstration of institutional continuity, while Sall pledged to keep the head of state informed about the progress of his campaign.
Sall later travelled to Banjul, where he met Gambian President Adama Barrow and called for greater African unity on issues of global governance, peace, human rights and sustainable development.
The visit follows recent diplomatic engagements in China, Greece and at the United Nations in New York as he seeks support ahead of the selection of the next UN Secretary-General. Six candidates are officially contesting to succeed António Guterres, whose second term ends in December 2026.
