Malian Army Reports Gains in Anti-Terror Operations as JNIM Claims New Attacks

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) say they have carried out successful counter-terrorism operations in the Mopti and Nara regions, destroying enemy camps, seizing weapons, and neutralizing several militants.

A helicopter assault near Koundioli Maoudé on September 18 reportedly killed around ten armed fighters and dismantled a training base, while a combined air and ground offensive the following day targeted a jihadist stronghold near Mourdiah, eliminating militants and destroying weapons caches, explosive sites, and logistical networks.

According to the army, these strikes are part of ongoing efforts to secure central Mali and prevent armed group movements toward the Kayes region.

Meanwhile, the jihadist alliance Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) has claimed responsibility for new attacks against Malian forces, including an ambush on a military convoy between Soribougou and Negala in Koulikoro region, and an explosive device attack in the town of Konna.

Despite persistent threats across the center and south, the army insists it remains committed to dismantling terrorist infrastructure and maintaining nationwide security operations.
