Nigerian authorities have intercepted a sophisticated drug trafficking operation involving cocaine and tramadol concealed in vehicle side mirrors at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) uncovered the shipment, bound for Libreville, Gabon, containing over 57,000 tramadol pills and 2.6kg of cocaine hidden in 71 side mirrors. Three suspects have been arrested, including a cargo agent and a second individual from whose home further cocaine parcels were recovered.
In a separate case, officers at the same airport intercepted lipsticks stuffed with cocaine and phenacetine, a common cutting agent, intended for Equatorial Guinea. The drugs led investigators to a businesswoman, Mrs. Roseann Nneka Nwafor, who was arrested at her shop in Lagos but her husband is now on the run. The couple was reportedly running the illicit trade as a family business.
Meanwhile, in Abuja, NDLEA operatives arrested three dispatch riders during intelligence-led operations for distributing illegal cannabis products. Two more suspects were caught along the Abaji-Gwagwalada expressway with over 91kg of skunk, while in Lagos, arrests continued with individuals found in possession of Colorado, a synthetic cannabis variant, and skuchies, a drug-laced drink.
Across the country, major seizures were also recorded in Benue, Edo,Maiduguri, Ogun, Oyo, Delta, Bayelsa, Kano, and Osun states.
