Niger, Algeria Explore Deeper Bilateral Cooperation

Niger and Algeria are seeking to strengthen cooperation in strategic sectors, including energy, water management and environmental protection, following talks between Nigerien President Abdourahamane Tiani and Algeria’s ambassador to Niamey, Saadi Ahmed.

The meeting took place on Monday at the presidential palace, with the Algerian envoy accompanied by a delegation of experts. Several Nigerien ministers attended, including those responsible for petroleum, the environment, water resources, sanitation and justice, highlighting the broad scope of potential bilateral cooperation.

The participation of officials from key economic and technical sectors points to opportunities for closer collaboration in areas where both countries have shared interests.

The discussions come as both countries look to deepen ties amid mounting economic, environmental and security pressures across the Sahel.

The meeting signals continued efforts by Niamey and Algiers to expand their partnership, although the practical outcomes of the discussions remain unclear.
