Nigerien President Abdourahamane Tiani received a high-level Russian delegation led by Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev at the Presidential Palace in Niamey on October 2, following the first meeting of the Niger-Russia Intergovernmental Joint Commission.
The meeting brought together more than 100 government officials and private-sector representatives from both countries to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in key sectors, including energy, agriculture, transport, healthcare, education and vocational training.
The commission identified several concrete projects and decisions aimed at strengthening cooperation across these priority areas. Its co-chairs presented the outcomes of the meeting to President Tiani.
Tiani welcomed the results and called for the process to be accelerated, instructing both sides to move quickly toward implementing the projects identified.
The talks come ahead of the Russia-Africa Summit scheduled to take place in Moscow later in October 2026, where Niger is expected to further advance its bilateral cooperation with Russia.
