The Nigerian Army has arrested sixteen officers over alleged acts of indiscipline and violations of military service regulations. Preliminary investigations indicate that their actions were linked to frustrations arising from repeated failures in promotion examinations and stalled career advancement.
According to a statement from the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the conduct of the officers fell short of the standards expected within the Armed Forces.
Some of the arrested officers were already under investigation for various offences and were either facing trial or awaiting court proceedings.
Gusau said those found guilty after the ongoing investigation would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with military procedures.
He emphasized that the arrests were part of routine measures to uphold discipline, order, and professionalism within the Armed Forces, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to maintaining integrity and fulfilling its constitutional duties under democratic authority.
