Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has announced an upcoming visit to Benue State in the country’s north-central region, where escalating violence has left over 160 people dead and thousands displaced.
The unrest is reportedly driven by ongoing clashes between farming communities and suspected Fulani herders—a conflict rooted in disputes over land and grazing rights, which has persisted for years in various parts of Nigeria.
In a recent national broadcast, President Tinubu called for peace and emphasised the need for unity, expressing concern over the continued loss of lives and destruction of communities.
