The Nigerian Armed Forces have rescued 34 abducted victims, arrested an alleged Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) informant and recovered weapons and ammunition during coordinated security operations across several parts of the country. In an operational report released on Sunday, the military said troops under Operation HADIN KAI rescued 31 kidnap victims along the Buratai-Kamuya road in Borno State after surveillance detected ISWAP/JAS fighters abducting civilians from four vehicles. A rapid military response forced the attackers to abandon their captives and flee. In Adamawa State, troops from the 232nd Tactical Battalion arrested a man suspected of serving as an ISWAP informant at Garaha Market in Hong Local Government Area.
Elsewhere, Operation FANSAN YAMMA repelled armed groups in Zamfara State, while troops under Operation MESA rescued a woman and her two children who had been abducted in Kogi State. The military also arrested three suspects linked to an ambush on soldiers in Imo State in May and recovered AK-47 rifles, an FN rifle, a pistol, magazines and hundreds of rounds of ammunition during raids on camps used by armed groups. The operations form part of Nigeria’s ongoing campaign against jihadist insurgents and criminal gangs operating across the country’s northeast, northwest and southeast.
