Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered multiple international drug trafficking attempts, seizing illicit substances.
The items were concealed in frozen snails, electrical bulbs, and clothing destined for the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The agency announced that its operatives at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport and a local courier company intercepted the shipments earlier this month, arresting at least two suspects connected to the operations.
One suspect, cargo agent Boladale Riliwan, was apprehended after 15 parcels of cannabis (skunk) were found hidden inside ten giant rechargeable bulbs bound for the DRC. Another suspect, Olawale Oyebola Hakeemot, a 48-year-old UK-based public health assistant, was detained after NDLEA officers discovered 2,300 tramadol pills concealed in frozen snails in her luggage on a flight to Manchester, UK.
In a separate case, NDLEA officers intercepted 810 bromazepam tablets concealed within women’s clothing heading to the US through a Lagos courier firm.
Further operations led to a series of domestic seizures in different states across the country.
