President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerian state governors to place greater focus on improving rural communities through expanded access to electricity, modernized farming practices, poverty reduction efforts, and better infrastructure.
This appeal came during the 150th National Economic Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, where the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP) was presented.
Tinubu instructed the council to form a committee to accelerate key national infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar and Sokoto-Badagry super highways, and directed the relocation of the Office of the Surveyor-General to the presidency to support implementation.
The NEC has officially approved the RHWDP as a joint strategy involving all levels of government to drive grassroots economic transformation across Nigeria’s 8,809 wards.
Built on the Renewed Hope Agenda, the plan targets long-term growth with an ambition to grow the economy to $1 trillion by 2030.
The initiative sets population benchmarks per ward to support economic activities and will be overseen by a National Steering Committee drawn from each geopolitical zone.
The Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning will coordinate the program’s rollout.
