President Bola Tinubu has conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on Nigeria’s Super Falcons in recognition of their triumph at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where they secured the country’s 10th title.
Hosting the team at the Presidential Villa on Monday, Tinubu also announced cash rewards of the naira equivalent of $100,000 for each of the 24 players, and $50,000 for each member of the 11-man technical team.
In addition, all players and technical staff will receive three-bedroom apartments.
The President praised the team’s dedication, resilience, and display of national pride, describing them as symbols of the Nigerian spirit.
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum, represented by its Chairman and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, also donated ₦10 million to each player and technical staff member.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade expressed appreciation for the support, while the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, had earlier welcomed the champions upon their return from Morocco.
