Nigerien army confronted a simultaneous offensive launched by armed individuals described as mercenaries.
According to media reports, the response resulted in the neutralization of 41 militants, the securing of positions, and the seizure of weapons and vehicles, despite JNIM claiming responsibility for the operation.
The attack, which occurred on Friday, July 4 at 5:50 a.m., targeted military positions in Bouloundjouga and Samira in western Niger as part of Operation NIYA.
A coordinated air and ground response by the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) led to the recovery of several weapons and motorcycles.
Ten soldiers were killed and 15 injured, while the army maintains full control over the targeted areas.
The defense minister reaffirmed the military’s commitment to national sovereignty and dismissed jihadist claims of capturing the positions.
