Nigerien Authorities Dismantles Major Drug Trafficking Network in Zinder

Authorities in Niger have successfully dismantled a significant drug trafficking network during an operation conducted by the Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS) from January 5 to 10, 2025.

The operation resulted in the arrest of nine individuals, including one foreign national, and the seizure of:

599,850 capsules of pregabalin,18 kilograms of cannabis and

8,110 tablets of other psychotropic substances.

These substances were reportedly intended for distribution in local and regional markets.

Officials praised the operation as a triumph of robust collaboration among law enforcement agencies, judicial services, and community members.

Speaking on the development, the Public Prosecutor in Zinder urged citizens to report suspicious activities, emphasizing public participation as vital to combating drug-related crimes.

Governor Zinder also stressed the importance of drug awareness and prevention programs, particularly those targeting youth, as part of broader efforts to address the root causes of substance abuse.
