Niger’s Defence and Security Forces (FDS) have seized more than 47,000 rounds of ammunition, a dozen weapons, rockets and four vehicles during two operations conducted in N’Guigmi and the Agadem oil block, according to the Nigerien Press Agency.
The raids were carried out under Operation “Nalewa Dolé” following the February 10, 2026 attack on the Jibela position by elements of the Popular Movement for Liberty and Justice (MPLJ) linked to Moussa Kounay.
Lieutenant-Colonel Ari Foukori, commander of the 53rd Combined Arms Battalion in N’Guigmi, said four suspects were arrested. The seized arsenal included nine AK-47 rifles, a pistol, more than 47,000 rounds of ammunition, three vehicles and communication equipment.
In a related operation at the Agadem oil site, Colonel Mahamadou Daye, commander of the National Guard in Diffa, reported the recovery of another vehicle, three AK-47 rifles and three rockets. Three security personnel were wounded during the counterattack.
Diffa Governor Major General Mahamadou Ibrahim Bagadoma described the seizure as one of the most significant in recent months, noting that the region continues to face terrorist threats and arms trafficking despite sustained security operations.
