The Nigerian entertainment industry is mourning the reported death of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, who reportedly passed away at the age of 40 following a prolonged illness linked to cancer.
Multiple Nigerian media outlets and entertainment blogs reported that the actor died after battling the disease privately for several years, although official confirmation from his family or management remains limited.
Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke became one of Nollywood’s most recognizable faces through his performances in romantic comedies and drama films, starring in productions such as Weekend Getaway, Lagos Cougars, Champagne, and Gold Diggin.
He gained prominence after emerging first runner-up in the 2010 Mr. Nigeria contest and later built a successful acting career spanning more than a decade.
Colleagues and fans across social media have continued to pay tribute to the actor, remembering him for his charisma, humor, and professionalism in the African film industry.
Reports indicate that he had largely withdrawn from public life and social media since late 2024 as concerns over his health grew.
