Over 51,000 Burkinabe Refugees Flee to Central Mali Since April

More than 51,000 Burkinabe refugees have crossed into Mali’s Bandiagara region since April 2025, seeking safety in the Koro district.

Figures released during a national coordination meeting on the refugee situation in Koro, chaired by Mali’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, highlight the growing crisis.

The National Commission for Refugees, with support from UNHCR, reported that 20,238 of these refugees have already been registered and documented between August and September.

The meeting brought together government officials, humanitarian actors, and financial partners to assess the situation, review ongoing actions, and identify urgent needs.

It also marked the launch of “Djiguiya,” a digital platform developed by UNHCR to strengthen coordination among stakeholders.

The tool is expected to improve data sharing and provide a centralized database for enhancing the humanitarian response in Mali.
