President Faye Joins High-Level Conference on UN Resolution on Enslaved Africans

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye is in Accra, Ghana, to participate in a High-Level Consultative Conference focused on the next steps following the adoption of a landmark United Nations resolution recognizing the transatlantic trafficking of enslaved Africans and racialised chattel enslavement as the gravest crime against humanity.

The conference, taking place from June 17 to 19, 2026, follows the adoption of UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/80/250 on March 25 by the United Nations General Assembly.

The gathering seeks to advance global discussions on reparatory justice, accountability and the long-term consequences of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.

President Faye is among several international dignitaries expected to attend the event, which aims to strengthen cooperation on issues of historical justice and support the implementation of the resolution’s objectives.
