President Mahama Orders Security Reinforcement to Calm Intercommunal Clashes in Savannah Region

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has ordered additional security deployment and sent a high-level delegation to address rising tensions in the Savannah region, where violent clashes between the Gonja and Brifor communities have shaken the towns of Sawla and Bole.

The decision followed a security briefing received upon his return from a state visit to Singapore, after which the president also held discussions with King Gonja, Yagbonwura Jira Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, to explore peaceful solutions.

A delegation led by Interior Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak has been tasked with engaging traditional leaders and supporting reconciliation efforts, while police and military reinforcements have been dispatched to stabilize the situation.

The government is calling on local authorities, community leaders, and residents to prioritize dialogue and cooperation with the regional security council in order to restore lasting peace.
