President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the country’s armed forces to intensify their preparedness in the face of growing security threats that continue to challenge the nation’s stability and progress.
Speaking at an official ceremony marking the 61st anniversary of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), President Tinubu – represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima – emphasised the crucial link between national security, democratic resilience, and sustainable economic growth.
The event, held in Abuja, featured the commissioning of two newly acquired Agusta 109 Trekker helicopters – an investment the president described as a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s air defence capabilities.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modernising the military through continued investment in defence technologies and infrastructure, in line with his Renewed Hope Agenda. He also underscored the role of air power in fostering a secure environment that attracts both domestic and international investment.
In addition to reinforcing national defence, President Tinubu urged the armed forces to remain prepared for regional and global peacekeeping responsibilities, given the evolving nature of international security threats.
In his remarks, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, hailed the helicopter acquisition as a major milestone in the Air Force’s modernisation efforts.
