The Senegalese government has approved more than CFA7.2 billion in funding to support food security and manage the 2026 lean season, following an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo. The funds will finance food assistance for vulnerable households and provide support to livestock farmers facing shortages of grazing and fodder resources, as part of efforts to reduce the impact of seasonal food insecurity.
The government also agreed to strengthen coordination among relevant ministries to ensure the swift implementation of the assistance programmes nationwide. The measures form part of Senegal’s broader strategy to prevent food crises, protect rural livelihoods, and support the 2026–2027 agricultural campaign while ensuring the availability of essential food supplies across the country.
