Senegal Announces 30-Member Government as PASTEF Opts Out of Cabinet Participation

Senegal has unveiled a new government led by Prime Minister Ahmadou Alamine Mohamed Lo, with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye appointing a 30-member cabinet through decree No. 2026-1130.

The new executive team includes 26 ministers and four ministers attached to ministers, marking a major step in the country’s ongoing institutional reorganization.

The appointments were made on the Prime Minister’s proposal following his designation on May 26, 2026.

Key portfolios in the new government include Yankoba Diémé at the Armed Forces, Cheikh Diba at Economy and Finance, Cheikh Niang in charge of Foreign Affairs, and Mohamedou Makhtar Cissé overseeing Interior and Public Security.

Other major ministries have also been assigned across sectors including justice, energy, education, health, infrastructure, agriculture, and digital affairs, with the first Council of Ministers scheduled for June 5 under the President’s chairmanship.

The formation comes amid a political shift, as the Executive Committee of PASTEF-Les Patriotes announced it will not take part in the new government, signaling a break from cabinet participation despite the party’s continued influence in Parliament.
