Senegal has significantly exceeded its oil and gas production forecasts for 2025, strengthening its position as an emerging energy producer in Africa.
According to figures released by the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines, the country recorded exceptional crude oil and liquefied natural gas output during the year, outperforming earlier projections.
Minister Birame Souleye Diop confirmed that three crude oil cargoes from the Sangomar field were lifted and sold on the international market in December 2025 alone, totalling approximately 2.94 million barrels.
Overall crude oil production for 2025 is now estimated at 36.1 million barrels. This figure surpasses the initial forecast of 30.53 million barrels and exceeds the revised estimate of 34.7 million barrels issued in June 2025.
Authorities attributed the strong performance to high reservoir productivity and improved well output.
Progress was also recorded at the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project, where three liquefied natural gas cargoes were exported in December 2025.
The shipments represented a combined volume of around 0.5 million cubic metres, marking the highest level of LNG production achieved since operations began and confirming a steady ramp-up of activities.
These results further reinforce Senegal’s growing role in the African oil and gas sector, positioning the country as a strategic contributor to the continent’s energy supply.
