Senegal to Shut Down All Foreign Military Bases by July

Senegalses Prime Minister, Ousmane Sanko has announced plans to remove all foreign military bases from its land by July 2025.

The minister who was speaking in an interview on Burkina Faso’s national television during an official visit, explained that this decision is part of efforts to fully reclaim Senegal’s independence and control over its security.

He noted that the country has been working towards full sovereignty for the past year. He added that the process has already begun, with one base recently cleared, and all others set to follow within a few months.

Sonko stressed that Senegal is not against working with other countries, but any cooperation must be based on fairness and mutual respect. He called on African nations to take charge of their own future and no longer rely heavily on outside powers for protection.
