Popular Senegalese artist Waly Ibrahima Seck, son of the late music legend Thione Seck, has been charged with criminal conspiracy and money laundering in connection with a vehicle transaction involving Amadou Sall, son of former President Macky Sall.
Following his hearing before an investigating judge on Wednesday, the singer was granted provisional release after a deposit of 210 million FCFA was made.
His lawyer stressed that the payment was a legal procedure under the Code of Criminal Procedure and did not imply an admission of guilt.
The 39-year-old singer, known simply as “Waly” to fans, had been abroad when the case first emerged but later returned to face the investigation, which remains ongoing.
Seck is a leading figure in Senegal’s music scene, commanding a large youth following and carrying the legacy of his late father.
The case has generated widespread attention on social media and heightened public debate in Senegal, where governance and judicial matters are closely scrutinized.
